The Trinity College Women’s Lacrosse team defeated the Bowdoin Polar Bears 12-9 this past Saturday winning this year’s “Coaches for Cancer” game. To date, the Bantams are 7-2 on the season.
Things were off to a good start when Trinity handily defeated Williams in their season opener 12-5 and followed up with another sound victory against Wheaton (Mass.) 15-5. Stevens was up next, and the Bantams showed impressive perseverance at Robin L. Sheppard Field as they prevailed in a 10-9 double-overtime victory, that to a timely goal from attacker Clare Lyne ’17. The next week, Trinity took on Colby at home and sent the Mules packing with a sound 13-3 victory. Trinity’s first loss of the season came during their annual spring break trip to Clermont, Florida, where they were outscored 9-6 by longtime rival, Salisbury. The squad crushed Endicott 19-3, rounding out their Florida trip on a positive note. Bates followed and proved to be a testament to the difficulty and competitive nature of NESCAC play. Trinity edged out a 6-5 victory with yet another game winning goal from Lyne.
Last week, Tufts proved themselves worthy opponents for the Bantams, scraping past Trinity, earning a 10-9 victory, causing Trinity’s second loss on the season. According to goalie Emily Mooney ’16, “After the loss to Tufts, we sat down as a team and reevaluated what the goals for the season were, and how we were planning on achieving them.” She also commented on the team’s most recent victory: “Bowdoin was a great team win that came at a great time, and I think that win showcased this team’s potential to be great.” With six games to go in their regular season, this win came at a key point in the season. Co-captain and midfielder Martha Griffin ’16 commented, “We had a good game against Bowdoin. They kept the game close, but we maintained our composure throughout. We had some great support from our alumni and, most importantly, got to play for a worthy cause – Coaces for Cancer.” The Bantams look to continue their winning streak when they take on Connecticut College at home on Wednesday, Apr.4 at 7pm.
